• I work with children (approximately 7 years and older), teens, and adults.

OCD and anxiety often impact family dynamics. Parent/guardian participation in treatment is typically an important part of the recovery process. I tend to work closely with parents to increase understanding of their child’s condition(s), promote application of skills learned in session, and closely monitor progress. This may look like a parent check-in at the start or end of the appointment.

When anxiety/OCD is affecting school performance or attendance, collaboration between myself and school staff (ex. school counselors) can ensure comprehensive support.

  • I am fully licensed in Missouri and Kansas. Additionally, I am authorized to practice telepsychology under PSYPACT, allowing me to work with clients in the following states:

AL, AZ, AR, CO, CT, DE, DC, FL, GA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, ME, MD, MI, MN, SB, MO, NE, NV, NH, NJ, NC, ND, OH, OK, PA, RI, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VT, VA, WA, WV, WI, WY

  • All current clients have the option of televideo/virtual appointments.

Those located in the Kansas City area, or willing to travel, also have the option of in-person appointments. My office is located inside The Historic Helzberg Building located at 3130 Troost Avenue, Suite 202 in Kansas City, MO 64109.

As an out-of-network provider, I have the flexibility to hold our sessions in unique settings and go where anxiety is showing up for you! This may include at the store, on the road, at home, at school, etc. This approach allows for direct application of tools learned in therapy into your day-to-day life.

  • The cost of the initial evaluation appointment for all new therapy clients is $375. This appointment is typically 90-120 minutes in length and involves a structured clinical interview.

Information gathered during the initial evaluation process is used to inform diagnostic impressions and create a tailored treatment plan. This cost also covers review of relevant records and initial contact with other providers, such as psychiatrists or pediatricians, if applicable.

Therapy appointments are billed at $185 per 45-minute time block and prorated for lesser or greater time. Other professional services, such as report writing requested on the client’s behalf or travel time (for home and community sessions), are billed in the same fashion.

A card must be placed on file to reserve your initial evaluation appointment. You may update the card on file at any time.

Accepted forms of payment include credit, debit, check, and HSA/FSA funds.

  • I am considered an “out of network” provider, meaning that I do not file claims on your behalf or negotiate rates with insurance companies. I do not participate in any health insurance networks or managed care company plans.

I am not a covered provider for Medicare or Medicaid and applicable clients must forego the use of these benefits for my services and cannot independently file claims.

Services may be reimbursable by your insurance company, depending on your out-of-network benefits. It is strongly recommended that you contact your insurance company to understand the details of your out-of-network coverage.

A billing statement will be provided at the end of the month that includes all the necessary information to file with insurance for out-of-network reimbursement, should you choose to do so.

While working with an out-of-network provider may have higher upfront costs, it offers several key advantages:

    • Personalized Treatment Plan: I am able to design a treatment plan tailored to your specific needs and goals—determining the length, intensity, and type of therapy—without restrictions from third-party payer guidelines.

    • Privacy and Control: You have the option to keep your treatment completely confidential, with no involvement from third parties in billing or paperwork.

    • Long-Term Cost Efficiency: Investing in evidence-based treatment often leads to more effective outcomes, potentially reducing or even eliminating the need for ongoing services over time, which can lower your overall out-of-pocket expenses.

In compliance with the No Surprises Act (effective January 1, 2022), healthcare providers are required to inform patients of their federal rights and protections against “surprise medical bills.”

If you are uninsured, choose not to use your insurance, or receive services from an out-of-network provider, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate outlining the expected costs of your care.  As an out-of-network provider, the cost of services are your responsibility.

Following the initial intake appointment, you will receive an estimate of the costs for your treatment based on the information available at the time. The estimate may not include unforeseen expenses due to complications or special circumstances. We will regularly collaborate to adjust the estimate as needed based on your treatment plan.

For more information, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call (800) 368-1019.

Please keep a copy of your Good Faith Estimate for reference.

  • The majority of clients benefit from weekly sessions for a period of time, typically at the beginning of treatment. CBT treatments can range anywhere from 6 to 20 sessions. This number varies based on factors including type of treatment (ex. Prolonged Exposure for PTSD versus Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia), symptom severity, life stressors/events, and individual effort.

Sessions typically last 45-50 minutes. However, extended sessions (ex. 90 minutes) may be recommended depending on the type of treatment and client need.

Depending on provider availability and clinical appropriateness, you may have the option to complete treatment at an accelerated pace (ex. 2-3 sessions per week). Intensive/accelerated treatment protocols are especially effective for OCD, Panic Disorder, Phobias, and PTSD.

After completing the active phase of treatment, some clients find periodic booster sessions or check-ins helpful for maintaining progress made in treatment.

  • Cancellation of initial evaluation appointment with less than 48 hours notice will result in a charge of 50% of the initial evaluation fee ($187.50).

For all appointments following the initial evaluation, 24 hours notice is required to cancel or reschedule your appointment.  Appointments canceled or rescheduled with less than 24 hours notice will incur a charge of $50 for the first occurrence and the full session fee ($185) for subsequent occurrences.

  • Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is a specialized form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), proven to be highly effective for treating OCD and other anxiety disorders. ERP involves two key components:

    1. Exposure: Gradually facing feared stimuli or avoided stimuli (ex. thoughts, situations, etc.) to elicit anxiety.

    2. Response Prevention: Resisting the urge to perform compulsions or engage in avoidance strategies (also known as “safety behaviors”) before, during, and after the exposure.

The goal of ERP is to “retrain” your brain to no longer view obsessions and (some) anxiety triggers as threats. By repeatedly facing feared situations without performing compulsions or safety behaviors, your anxiety will naturally decrease over time—a process known as habituation

ERP is action-oriented and directly targets the cycle of obsessions and compulsions. While talk therapy can be beneficial for some mental health concerns, it has not been shown to effectively treat OCD. In some cases, talk therapy can actually worsen symptoms of OCD, thus, it is important to participate in evidence-based treatment.

I work collaboratively with clients to design exposures that are tailored to their level of readiness and aligned with their values.

  • I do not prescribe medication. However, I can assist current clients in identifying potential medication prescribers.
